A Book Review By Kids For Kids

The Lightning Thief: The Graphic Novel – Rick Riordan

Here at the library we have a book club for 4th and 5th grade students called Pizza and Pages. Our latest read was “The Lightning Thief”. Because most of the students in our group had read the novel and really liked it, they decided to read the Graphic Novel version of the story. Here is what the kids had to say about this book:

We liked a lot about this book. The action scenes were great, particularly when a national monument got blown up! It was awesome when Percy and his friends go to a hotel in Las Vegas and get a credit card that never runs out of money, we want a card like that! The funniest part of the book was when a girl tried to flush Percy’s head in a toilet. We also thought the artwork in the graphic novel was cool and amazing.

The Graphic Novel was different from the book. It had less details and skipped over some of the scenes.  But overall, our book club decided we liked the graphic novel version better. We liked the images, even though they were different from how we imagined the story in our heads.

If you are interested in joining Pizza and Pages, we meet on the second Thursday of every month at 4:30. You can check out our website or call 989.773.3242 for more information or to register for an upcoming meeting.

You've read the book. You've seen the movie. Now submerge yourself in the thrilling, stunning, and action-packed graphic novel.
Mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking out of the pages of twelve-year-old Percy Jackson's textbooks and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Now, he and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus.
Series creator Rick Riordan joins forces with some of the biggest names in the comic book industry to tell the story of a boy who must unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
