I had been suffering, as many people have, from “Droughtlander”, the emptiness created while waiting for Season 3 of Outlanders. In desperation, I searched through the CRDL catalog looking for something to satisfy the longing to hear/read Scottish voices weaving stories of plaid, love, magic, lairds and warriors and came across a series by Karen Marie Moning called the “Highlander Romances”. I checked out book one, Beyond the Highland Mist, and was treated to an engaging and steamy story of Hawk, a legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir, and Adrienne de Simone, an independent beauty recovering from a bad love affair, who was pulled out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland by a fairy seeking revenge on Hawk.
Captive in a century not her own and entirely too bold and outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne fully intends to say no, but cannot resist the charms of Hawk and power of their attraction for each other. Most readers/listeners will enjoy the suspense and passion of their romantic encounters as well as the intrigue surrounding the fairies and their reasons for wanting to trick Hawk and the King. Beyond the Highland Mist is entertaining enough to keep you occupied while waiting for Outlander to reappear.
